Back to the Dance Hall – Trina's Story at Wonder Club in Tampere
Wonder Club - TerhiJaa
I’m Trina, a 28-year-old dancer from Tampere. I started dancing at a young age, with ballet and contemporary dance. I’m originally from a small town where dance class options were quite limited. Despite that, I danced actively and purposefully until I was 17 when I suffered a stress injury to my back and had to take a long break from my beloved hobby.
A new beginning in Tampere – a return to dance
I later moved to Tampere for my studies. The move to a big city felt both scary and exciting – everything was new. However, I decided that now would be the right time to return to dancing. At Wonder, I’ve especially found commercial and heels classes.
Back in the studio after a break – honestly
Returning to the dance studio wasn’t entirely easy. At first, I was very nervous, and it was sometimes even frustrating to realize that I couldn't do everything the same way I used to. Gradually, however, I learned to accept that after a break, it's natural to start almost from scratch. At the same time, I've noticed myself exceeding my own expectations time and time again.
What dance has taught me
Dance has taught me much more than new steps. I’ve learned to cooperate, express myself, and trust my own skills. Every success has boosted my self-confidence, and mistakes have also become an important part of learning.
Wonder Club community – new friends in the dance studio
Through Wonder, I’ve also made new friends. We’ve practiced together, helped each other remember choreographies, and encouraged each other to improve. Doing things together quickly broke the ice, and dance classes became one of the highlights of the week.
Be brave and join in – tips for a new Wonder Club dancer
If you’re starting at Wonder, I want to encourage you to be brave and join in. It’s completely normal to feel nervous in a new environment, but remember that you’re not alone in your feelings. Dare to try, ask for advice, and meet new people. Dance is much more than steps and choreographies. It’s a community where you can find new friends, challenge yourself, and experience success.
Give yourself time to grow and learn. Every class takes you forward, and no one has to be perfect from day one. So dare to step in – you might be surprised how much joy, confidence, and new people dance can bring into your life.
